Update Residential Status
If you travel internationally frequently, it’s important to check and update your residential status for the financial year. Your residential status impacts how much tax you owe and where you need to pay it, as income tax is based on two key principles:
- Source of Income
- Residential Status
Who is Considered a Resident?
An individual is classified as a Resident if they:
- Have stayed in India for more than 182 days during the financial year, OR
- Have stayed in India for 60 days or more in the current financial year and 365 days or more in the last four financial years.
Additional conditions help determine whether you qualify as an NRI (Non-Resident Indian) or Resident but Not Ordinarily Resident (RNOR).
Steps to Update Your Residential Status
-
Click on the Profile Icon > View Profile

-
Under Personal Details, edit your Residential Status

-
If you’re an NRI, provide additional details such as:
- Citizenship status
- Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)
Note: If you don’t have a TIN, you can enter your passport number instead.
