Check Your ITR for Potential Notice Risk
Before you e-file your Income Tax Return (ITR), compare it with the Income Tax Department's Prefill JSON to identify any differences. This helps you spot missing or mismatched income, deductions, tax credits, or other details that could potentially result in a notice after filing.
Before You Start
- Download your Prefill JSON: Log in to the Income Tax e-Filing portal, then go to e-File → Income Tax Returns → Download Prefilled JSON.
- Supported format: Only .json files can be uploaded.
- You stay in control: Review and edit any information after the comparison and before you e-file.
Upload and Compare Your Prefill JSON
- Open Potential Notice Risk
On the Review your Income Tax Return page, click Check Potential Notices next to Proceed to e-file.
- Upload your Prefill JSON
Drag and drop your file into the upload window or click Browse to select it from your computer.
- Wait for the analysis
Quicko compares your return with the Prefill JSON, including your income, deductions, tax credits, brought forward losses, personal information, and bank details.
- Review the summary
You'll see a summary of your Total Income, Tax Credits, and Refund/Tax Payable, along with any differences between your return and the Prefill JSON.
- Review each category
Expand sections such as Incomes, Deductions, Tax Credits, Brought Forward Losses (BFL), Personal Information, and Bank Details. Each section displays the number of mismatches found. - View and update details
Click any item to compare your entered value with the value in the Prefill JSON. If required, update your return directly from the comparison screen.
Note: A mismatch or missing entry does not necessarily mean your return is incorrect. The Prefill JSON may be incomplete or not reflect the latest information. Review each difference carefully before making any changes.
Need Help?
If you'd prefer assistance, click Book a Tax Expert on the Potential Notice Risk screen. A Quicko tax expert will review the differences, help reconcile them, and file your return for you.
