Your Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a unique identifier issued by the Income Tax Department (ITD). If you’ve mistakenly entered the wrong PAN or used a family member’s PAN, here’s how you can fix it.
If you’ve accidentally linked a family member’s PAN to your account, you can update the email address instead of changing the PAN. Follow these steps:
Go to Profile > My Account
Navigate to My Profile > Communication Details
Update the email address and verify it using the OTP
If you mistakenly entered the wrong PAN during account setup, the only way to correct it is by deleting your account and creating a new one. Here’s how:
Click on the Profile icon > My Account
Go to Settings and select Delete Account
Sign up again with the correct PAN
⚠️ Note: Deleting your account is permanent and will erase all associated data.
If you need to file taxes for someone else, you don’t have to change your PAN. Instead, you can add them as a client and access their account. For a step-by-step guide, check out How to Manage Clients.
