If you missed filing your ITR or need to correct errors that increase your tax liability, you can file an Updated Return (ITR-U) under section 139(8A).
ITR-U is allowed only when it results in additional tax payable. It cannot be used to claim refunds, reduce tax liability, or increase losses, and must be filed within 48 months from the end of the relevant assessment year.
Although ITR-U cannot be directly e-filed on Quicko yet, you can prepare the return on Quicko, download the JSON, and complete filing using the Income Tax Department’s offline utility.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to take your Quicko JSON and finish filing on the income tax utilities.
