Start your ITR with Form 16

Form 16 is a TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) certificate issued by your employer. It serves as proof of the tax deducted from your salary and contains essential details required for filing your income tax return.

Key Information in Form 16:

  • Salary Breakdown – Detailed structure of your salary components

  • TDS Details – Tax deducted and deposited with the government on your behalf

  • Interest on Home Loan – If disclosed to your employer, this will be reflected

  • Tax Deductions – Deductions claimed under sections like 80C, 80D, etc.

You can use Form 16 to prefill your tax return at the time of filing, making the process quicker and more accurate.

Important Tips for Uploading Form 16

  • Ensure that your Form 16 is TRACES-generated (i.e., issued from the official TDS portal).

  • The file size should be less than 6 MB.

Note: If your Form 16 PDF is password-protected, you’ll be prompted to enter the password during upload. The password is usually your PAN in uppercase letters.

  1. Go to File > Start here

  2. Select Upload Form 16

    Form 16 is divided into two parts - Part A and Part B. If you have separate files for each part, then upload them individually.Select Upload Form 16
