On the TIN-NSDL portal, the income tax payment can be made online. Tax is one of the main ways the government makes money and uses the same for public welfare.


The following list is the different types of income tax/income tax payments in India:

⚠️ However, as the Direct Tax TIN 2.0 services have been temporarily disabled by ITD, thus for the time being customers will have to initiate all Direct Tax payment form Income tax portal.

Tax payment from the Income tax portal can be done through (i) Net Banking (ii) Debit Card (iii) Over the Counter (iv) NEFT/RTGS (v) Payment Gateway for these banks:
Axis Bank, Bank of India Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Federal Bank, ICICI Bank, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Karur Vysya Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank.



Steps to make the online tax payment from the Income Tax Portal


You can make the tax payment in 2 ways: 


    1. Without logging into the e-Filing Portal

    2. Log into the e-Filing Portal


1. Without logging into the e-Filing Portal

  • Visit the e-Filing portal
  • Navigate to e-Pay Tax
  • Enter PAN & Mobile Number > Continue
  • Enter the OTP received on the mobile number entered > Continue
  • On the next screen, a successful verification message will be displayed > Continue
  • Select the category of tax payment > Proceed
  • Select the relevant Assessment Year & Type of Payment (Minor Head) > Continue
  • Enter the Tax Break up details > Continue
  • Select the mode of payment > Continue
  • On the next screen, you can preview the details entered > Pay Now
  • Select I agree to the terms & Conditions > Submit to Bank

You will be directed to the bank website where you will be required to select the mode of payment & hence make the payment. 


Upon successful payment, you shall see the Summary screen which shows the details of the taxpayer & tax payment.


Download the Challan reciept from the Summary screen for future refernce. 


Once the process is completed, you shall receive a confirmation on your registered email ID & Mobile Number.



2. Log into the e-Filing Portal

  • Visit the e-Filing portal
  • Log in using your PAN/Aadhaar & Password 
  • Navigate to e-File > e-Pay Tax
  • Click on New Payment
  • Select the category of tax payment > Proceed
  • Select the relevant Assessment Year & Type of Payment (Minor Head) > Continue
  • Enter the Tax Break up details > Continue
  • Select the mode of payment > Continue
  • On the next screen, you can preview the details entered > Pay Now
  • Select I agree to the terms & Conditions > Submit to Bank

You will be directed to the bank website where you will be required to select the mode of payment & hence make the payment. 


Upon successful payment, you shall see the Summary screen which shows the details of the taxpayer & tax payment.


Download the Challan reciept from the Summary screen for future refernce.
