Understand Error Codes returned by ITD

When e-filing your Income Tax Return (ITR) via Quicko or any other ERI (Electronic Return Intermediary), you may encounter error codes returned by the Income Tax Department (ITD). These errors can occur due to temporary issues like server downtime or heavy portal traffic. However, they’re often caused by missing, invalid, or mismatched information in your return.

When an error occurs, the system will generate a detailed error report that you can download to identify the issue. Below is a list of common error codes and how you can resolve them:

1 EF20001 DOB/DOI mentioned in xml does not match with DOB/DOI of logged in PAN Check that the Date of Birth or Date of Incorporation in your ITR matches your PAN records.
2 EF20002 No Record found in user profile table Ensure your PAN is registered on the Income Tax portal.
3 EF20003 PAN of the User in the xml/json mentioned in verification part is not same as of the User logged in. Kindly make sure both PAN are same Make sure the PAN in your return is the same as the one you're logged in with.
4 EF20004 Invalid PAN. PAN format should be First 5 Alphabets, next 4 digits, then 1 Alphabet in Part A General Information Ensure your PAN is correctly formatted (e.g., ABCDE1234F).
5 EF20005 Name of the User in the xml/json mentioned in verification part is not same as name mentioned in PAN. Kindly make sure both names are same Check that the name in your return exactly matches your PAN records.
6 EF20008 PAN cannot be null or empty. Please enter correct PAN Enter your valid PAN, this field is mandatory.
7 EF20009 FormName cannot be null or empty. Please enter correct FormName Select a valid ITR form like ITR-1, ITR-2, etc.
8 EF20010 Incorrect formName Verify that you've selected a correct and supported ITR form.
9 EF20011 Assessment Year cannot be null or empty Choose the correct Assessment Year (e.g., 2025-26).
10 EF20027 Filing section mentioned in the return mentioned does not match with the filing Type selected Ensure the section under which you're filing matches the selected filing type.
11 EF20029 You cannot file revised return under section 142(1)(i), 148, 153A & 153C You cant revise returns filed under these sections.
12 EF20088 FilingTypeCode cannot be null Make sure you select a filing type, this field cant be left blank.
13 EF20089 FilingTypeCode entered is not valid Choose a valid filing type from the dropdown while filing.
14 EF20090 FilingMode cannot be null Specify the filing mode — Online or Offline (JSON upload).
15 EF20091 FilingMode entered is not valid Make sure you select a valid filing mode supported by the portal.
16 EF20092 IncomeTaxSecCd cannot be null Choose a valid section under which you're filing (e.g., 139(1), 139(4), etc.).
17 EF20093 IncomeTaxSecCd entered is not valid Select a valid and supported section code for filing.
18 EF20094 SubmittedBy cannot be null Specify who is submitting the return (self, representative, etc.).
19 EF20095 SubmittedBy entered is not valid Ensure the Submitted By field has a valid value.
20 EF20135 You are not eligible to file ITR7 ITR-7 is only for certain entities (like trusts). File using the correct ITR form based on your profile.
21 EF20136 You cannot file return under section <...> as the time limit to file the return under this section is over Youve missed the deadline for filing under the selected section. File under a valid section if applicable.
22 EF500059 The software Id is not linked with the ERI User This is a backend linking issue between the ERI and ITD. Reach out to Quicko Support.
23 EF500058 The PAN is not a valid client for this ERI Ensure your PAN is correctly linked with the ERI (e.g., Quicko). Contact support if needed.
24 EF20123 Invalid Request Data Likely a technical issue in the request. Try re-filing or contact support.
25 EF500091 The PAN mentioned in the submitted ITR is different from the logged-in PAN Make sure the PAN in your return matches the PAN you're logged in with.
26 EF20030 PAN mentioned in verification part of xml/json is not same as of the PAN of Principal contact mentioned under Profile. Kindly make sure both PAN are same Ensure the PAN in your verification section matches the Principal Contact's PAN.
27 EF20033 Kindly enter the acknowledgement number for original return If you're filing a revised return, enter the original returns acknowledgment number.
28 EF20034 Aadhaar number entered is invalid Enter a valid 12-digit Aadhaar number.
29 EF20036 Minor cannot file the return A minor (under age 18) cannot file independently. A guardian must file on their behalf.
30 EF20037 Receipt no. is mandatory Enter the acknowledgment/receipt number wherever required.
31 EF20038 Invalid Receipt number. Please retry and enter correct acknowledgement number Check and enter the correct acknowledgment number for the original return.
32 EF20041 PAN mentioned in the return in verification part does not match with PAN of authorized person The PAN of the authorized signatory in the return must match whats registered.
33 EF20042 PAN entered in the return in verification part does not match with PAN of authorized person Recheck the authorized PAN and ensure its consistent across your profile and return.
34 EF20044 Contact person details not available Ensure you have entered the name and contact of the person submitting the return.
35 EF20048 You are not eligible to file the revised return You may not be eligible due to section restrictions or missed deadlines. File a fresh return if needed.
36 EF20049 Name of taxpayer in ITR does not match with the "Name" as per the PAN data base. The name in your return must exactly match with that on your PAN card.
37 EF20050 Name entered in ITR form does not match with the name provided in the PAN database/ Aadhaar Data Base Ensure your name in the ITR matches your official records (PAN/Aadhaar).
38 EF20052 IFSC under "Bank Details" is not matching with the RBI database Recheck and correct the IFSC code in your bank details. You can verify it on the RBI website.
39 EF20080 MimeType cannot be null Ensure a valid file type (like JSON) is being uploaded.
40 EF20081 MimeType entered is not valid. Please enter a valid value Upload a file with a supported format, typically .json.
41 EF20082 EntityType entered is not valid Choose the correct entity type (Individual, HUF, Company, etc.) while preparing your return.
42 EF20083 CreatedBy cannot be null Specify who is creating/submitting the return.
43 EF500052 Please select correct AY. Returns can be filed through this channel starting from AY 2021–22 The ERI channel only supports AY 2021-22 onwards. Select a valid Assessment Year.
